Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I book one of your services?

Please either text, call or email us! All the details are on our contact page and we are very responsive to all methods of communication. Text and email are preferred as we are often out dog walking or driving, but we can always call you back if you would prefer to chat or discuss any services. We look forward to hearing from you!

  • Which areas do you provide your services in?

We are able to provide services across the City and surrounding areas as long as a team member is available for your dates. There may be an additional surcharge for mileage if you are in one of the communities on the edges of the City limits. Please get in contact with us and we will be happy to discuss your needs and provide a quote for you.

  • How do you gain entry to my home for a dog walk or drop-in visit if I am not home?

Our preferred method of entry is to use your door keypad if you have one or a lockbox secured on your property, with a code provided to us before the service commences. We are of course happy to retrieve a key you have left in a safe place for us too, and will always be discreet returning your keys after we have exited your home.

  • What is your Cancellation Policy?

We understand that life can be hectic and circumstances can change at the last minute. We are very flexible with same day requests and time or date changes as long as we have a Pet Pal available for the service. However, if we have already set off to your home for a walk or drop-in service and you forgot to cancel, you will be charged at 50% of the rate of agreed service. Pet-Sitting cancellations will be charged at 50% of the service for less than 72hrs notice.

  • What is your bad weather policy?

We know your pets will still need to be fed or exercised despite Calgary’s unpredictable weather, so we are happy to provide service for those days you just don’t feel like braving the elements. However in cases of extreme weather where it would be dangerous for your pets or us to be out and travelling, e.g tornado warnings, very smoky or blizzard conditions, we will contact you and communicate if we need to alter or cancel a service.

  • Are you able to administer my pets medication?

Medication administration is offered at no extra charge when you book any of our services. All of our Pet Pals team are experienced in administering a variety of medications to animals. This is something we take very seriously as a company and are always happy to meet you first to discuss and watch how you prefer things to be done. It can also be super helpful for us if you video yourself administering for us to keep on file to refer to.

  • How long will my pets be left alone for with the pet sitting service?

This is for us to discuss at the initial contact stage or meet and greet. Every pet has different needs. We have a range of sitters with different daytime availabilities if you require someone being home throughout the day. Generally our sitters work 9-5ish hours and a midday pee break can be arranged or an extra walk booked.
If you need 24/7 care, please ask at the initial contact and a quote will be provided.

  • What is in-home pet sitting?

This is a service we provide for when you are away from home and need someone to call in or stay with your pets. We offer a range of options from ‘drop-in visits’ at times you choose to ‘overnight stay’ service where we sleep at your home and keep your pet’s regular routines in place while you are gone.

  • Where does the pet sitter sleep?

We will sleep in whichever room works best for you. We would generally prefer to be in a spare bedroom rather than your main bedroom, but this can be discussed at the meet & greet or via correspondence once a booking has been made. We just ask that you leave clean linen out for us.

  • Do owners need to provide anything for a pet sitter?

We will provide all our own personal items including any food that we need. All we require from you are clear instructions for the care of your pet, emergency contact forms we have provided and anything else needed to care for your pets and home while you are away. E.g mailbox key, location of garden hose. We will always leave your home clean and tidy at the end of the stay, so we kindly request it be left this way at the start too.

  • Do you walk my dog with other dogs?

No, dog walking is a private service we provide. This is not a pack walk service. We want your dog to be relaxed and have our full attention. They will also be kept on the leash at all times outside of your property unless you specifically require off leash walking. This will only happen at designated City off leash areas and if the walker is comfortable that your dog has the obedience and behaviour required to be around other dogs and people at an off leash park.

  • Will you send an update of your time with my pet?

Oh yes! We love sending photos and videos to show how much fun we are having with your fur babies. We will also send a written report of how our time together was spent to put your mind at ease while you are apart. We usually communicate this via text message, however, email or video calls can also be provided if preferred for our longer pet sitting services.

  • What types of pets do you care for?

We care for animals of all shapes and sizes! Previous clients have included rabbits, guinea pigs, fish and snails, as well as dogs and cats of all breeds and temperaments. Our team are all pet owners and between us we have a wealth of experience in many areas of animal care.

  • The service I am looking for isn't listed

Please contact us with any questions you have and we are happy to discuss your needs. We have listed the most popular service requests, but are very happy to work with you on a custom quote to better suit you and your pet’s needs and lifestyle.
